Life Lately + See you soon, Dubai!

Life Lately . . .

Before the year ends (2017), #TheKokobears (Darrelle and I) hit the road from Abu Dhabi to Dubai. A new life + adventure + service awaits us there. Hitting the road didn’t end there, I also hit the air (haha) by flying back to the Philippines and closed 2017 in Cebu.

Of Pages and Chapters, allow me to share the books I’ve read.

Trying my best to accomplish that. hehehe At least to give justice to my profession of being an educator… Well I guess, adding all the textbooks, I bet I’ve reach 100! 🙂 Anyway, here’s my humble list of pages and chapters of that world called books! 🙂

Majority of these books I have read a long time ago and can’t recall the exact year… So instead of specifying them year by year, I’ve collated them into 2017 backwards and will update 2018 onwards as I go along the way 🙂 Again, welcome to #TheKokobearsLibrary as #KayneBooks #KayneReads.

Basically on my “2018 TO READ” shelf! Wish me luck! Hope to finish it before Season 8 comes. Thank you to  _ _ _  you know who you are! #ChristmasWishlist2017 🙂

Book Review: All I Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten (by Robert Fulghum)

Been shelving this book for years… (probably more than a decade now!) … Never thought I’d be entertained this much! Thought-provoking, a few basics and some needs processing…. Hahaha 🙂

Book Review

ALL I NEED TO KNOW I LEARNED IN KINDERGARTEN

By: Robert Fulghum

Genre: Non-Fiction | Published: 1986,1988

There is magic from its title alone. There is curiosity that tickles the mind on what he means with it. Fulghum’s wit and simplifies the ordinary things and made them extra special. It is a delightful read that will leave you smiling in between the chapters and pages of this book.

It is simply a collection of short narratives in his life which quiet applies to ours too.

He also started this book with a list of basic things we learn in KG that truth be told – still relevant to our “NOW”.

Here, he also shared A Storyteller’s Creed which goes:

I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge.
That myth is more potent than history.
That dreams are more powerful than facts.
That hope always triumphs over experience.
That laughter is the only cure for grief.
And I believe that love is stronger than death.
Robert Fulghum (AIRNTKILIK)

Of course, I won’t end this book review with out some of my most favorite lines in this book.

📝 A Few Lessons worth taking notes (but not limited to it are the parts about :

  • *Miracle in a box
  • *Spiders
  • *Solomon islanders yelling to trees
  • *Abacus
  • *The Russians
  • *Charles Boyer and there are more…

* * *

“Living things have been doing just that for a long long time. Through every kind of disaster and setback and catastrophe. We are survivors. And we teach our kids about that. And maybe spiders tell their kids about it too.. in their spider sort of way.”

“Solomon islanders may have a point. Yelling at living things does tend to kill the spirit in them Sticks and stones may break our bones but words will break our hearts.”

“There is a sense that we need to go home again – and can go home again. Not to recover home, no. But to sanctify memory. . . . Through hard to explain, there is treasure there.”

“Her love was life to me…

. . . But there are moments when I look across the room – amid the daily ordinariness of life – and see the person I call my wife and friend and companion. And really is possible to love someone that much. I now. I’m certain of it.”

“It is something I can touch and hold and I believe in, especially when love gets difficult and there are no small arms around my neck anymore.”

I think old God is a Sardine player. And will be found the same way everybody gets found in Sardines – by the sound of laughter of those heaped together at the end. Click To Tweet

“It reminds me of an old Sufi story of a good man who was granted one wish by God. The man said he would like to go about doing something good without knowing about it. God granted his wish. And then God decided that it was such a good idea, he would grant that wish all al human beings. And so it has been to this day.”

“For others, it maybe an ordinary day. But the spirit of the season has been clear for a long time. God who it is said to started all this. Cared enough to send the very best.”

“I want my childhood back! . . . A child who is impractical, unrealistic, simple-minded and terribly vulnerable to joy. :)”

“An everlasting tandem: a liberation finally amounts to being free from things we don’t like in order to be enslaved by things we approve of.”

Fulghum’s Exchange Principle extends it: “every person passing through this life will unknowingly leave something and take something away. Most of this “something” cannot be seen or heard or numbered. It does not show up in a census. But nothing counts without it.”

“It’s about power (and the price) of imagination.”

“The Good Samaritan… I have wondered about the rest of the story. What effect did the charity have on the man. .. or did he remember the cruelty of the robbers? Which one shaped his life? What did he pass on to the strangers in his life? Those in need as he met?”

Everything you can imagine you can make it real – Picasso Click To Tweet

Mother Teresa’s: We can do no great things; only small things with great love.

Peace is not something you wish for; it is something you make, something you do, something you are and something you give away.

There’s so much to share, but I leave it to you.

The ending? Well, I’d say it didn’t . . . Did I get you more curious?

I hope these lines encourages you to go find this book and don’t let it wait for a decade!

God bless,

Favorite Blogging Apps

Favorite Blogging Apps

Favorite Blogging Apps!

Every blogger has his/her go to blogging apps –  whether you use it through your mobile phones and on your desktop/laptop. There’s been hundreds of app around IOS & Google Apps Stores that helps bloggers and vloggers to polish our contents and everyone has his/her favorite. Here is my humble take on this:

1 – WordPress App

Major major top bill on this list, is the main blog platform, WordPress! There are times when I am away from my laptop, so made sure that WordPress app is handy on my phone. Draft ideas on titles, photos and write ups are easily saved while I am out of my desk.

2 – Canva

Photo editing and layout has never been easy. Canva helped me a lot in all of my head photos and IG photos. Simply choose a template, change colors, text, photos and even filters. In no time, you’ll have your beautiful versions of an IG Photo, Youtube cover photos, Facebook FB Page cover photos or even for your presentations.

3 – PhotoGrid

Collating photos artistically is also very important. At times we want to capture photos that seemed to look similar but if you look closely it shows details of minor differences which is possibly your purpose to explain how things work – probably on DIY items or How To blog posts.

4 – MailChimp

Readers are one of the most important treasure a blogger must have. Emails are as good as people that we want to keep and so, to keep them organize, try our Mailchimp for your broadcast emails and keeping contacts.

5 – Social: Instagram, Facebook Pages, Twitter

Build more page visitors through Social Media, therefore these 3 are important to me. Aside from these 3 major platforms, I am also into Google+, Tumblr, Pinterest, Bloglovin etc. Although majority of my views definitely comes from these big 3!

I know, there are some apps that sets schedule on publishing posts or IG contents, but I wanna make things simple and still personalized. Oh by the way, I still keep with me my favorite manual apps – my notebook and pen! 😀

For now, these are my current favorites. How about you, what apps do you use in your #BlogLife?

Go ahead, share it!

God bless!

This is not a sponsored blog post. I just simply enjoy these apps!

Kayne Series Volume 5 – The #AtoZChallenge2018
Disclaimer: Before seeing a few blogs who did this #AtoZChallenge, I personally have seen these pages (the photos above) from my personalized magazine (make-my-own) where I created this A-Z list. Actually it has been my practice ever since I became an ESL Teacher. In fact I have used this strategy as well during my first one-on-one sessions for my CLS/HH members. 😀

Athena | Basketball | Car | Diary | Education | Fantasy | G-mik | Height | Internet | Julie Mae | Kayne | Letters | Mtv | Novels | Ouiting | Paris | Quiet | Relax | Singing | Tash | Ur105 | Vj  | Work | Xinsei | Yuck | Zoo

The above A to Z was my list way back 2004-2005, I guess I made it during my late CNU days. Before posting this, I have made a new version of this #AtoZChallenge for 2018.

I will try to organize them very soon. Wish me luck! 😀

  • Passion Projects

This year I call it a year of #PassionProjects and Breakthroughs. I would like to dedicate a few blog posts about this very important topic. I believe that we all have to do such creative side projects or hobby that would allow us to simply destress and enjoy doing it with out pressure. Here is the first installment post that I made to open this year. Read: Why Start a Passion Project?

  • Quitting

Last year (2017) I quit doing something I really love. I thought quiting is a weak person’s move. Yet quitting lead me to bigger plan that God has made.  Always make a point of offering such decision to God. I trust that He would let things happen for a reason. If you Google quotes about quitting, it usually shows you a “Don’t Quit” quotes – here’s my version to it:

Quitting” is a –Quiz –Using the –Intelligence of God’s perfect –Timing.
  • Risks

As I move forward to my 33rd year this year – I thought that the more that I am open to taking risks. Job choices, life decisions and others. I just pray that whatever risk I take – the Lord will bless these actions.

  • Stories

This year I have re-opened my WattPad account ang thought of writing more stories. Since this year is my year of Passion Projects, working on new stories or publishing old ones is one of my projects. I hope to finish at least 5 this year, maximum 10. Get updates and read my stories on #WattPad_MissJMKayne. Hopefully I will get a time to work on it and move forward to more! Fingers crossed! 😀

  • Teaching

My first and forever number one passion. I may not be doing it now, but I am always a teacher at heart. Of course I don’t go far, at the  moment I also have an ongoing Passion Project under “brainstorming stage” where I will be teaching something online. As of today, the details are not yet ready to be divuldged. I will definitely update you once I hit the ready button 🙂 In the meantime, get a glance into my TEACHING Room online.

  • Unity

To be united in whatever aspect in life: family, faith, love, team, community is so important. It is the backbone of a successful, loving and faithful unit of the society. I know it’s a tough call – but if only we unite for the better cause of life. I bet things will be better.

  • Video making and editing

Currently preparing my video editing skills for my #PassionProject to do some YouTube videos soon. 🙂 Its for my #IAmACyberMissionary series for Life Verses. Watch out for it very soon.

  • Writing

I’ve shared in my past blog posts, that this skill is my weakest and for me to polish it, I have to continously learn and study. It’s one of the very reason why I am into this blogging because I’d like to work better on this. In fact, my IELTS scores will show that among the 4 skills 🙂 hehehe Writing – although I passed – is still the lowest score that I have. I am a work in progress. I claim no “pro” status in this field even if I am the Editor-in-chief of The VineyardMagazine. So, here I am, trying my very best to build my writing life better than ever. Hopefully I could someday claim that I am indeed in a next level! 🙂

  • Xoxo

Favorite and shortest way to express kisses and hugs! Hahah never thought that this actually mean something until I learned what it is! For those who might not be familiar yet,,, X means kisses while O is a hug! ^^

  • Zeal

Zeal is a characterstic that we usually feel whenever we get ourself into something really interesting. Zeal for Love, Zeal for God. Zeal could be a another word for Passion. Right now I have this Zeal to take this online life into a higher level. I hope to someday become someone who I looked up to. People or entreuprener who have made life and business through their online presence.

TakeHome-ily: On Readiness and Seeing Him

Today, I went for a Monday mass with my parents and the priest has a very basic yet remarkable homily.

He said:

Whenever we attend the mass – every Christian (Catholics most especially) HAVE SEEN THE LORD – we just didn’t recognize IT.

Have you seen Him?

Yes we have. We all have. Others may say we see Him through the cross. It’s correct, but what if there is no cross. How else do we see God during the mass?

We see Him, through the host. The host which other people may think – it is just a bread. A bread that others sees it as nothing. But the bread with the wine are two important things in life. We eat bread and drink (water/wine) to survive. These two are essential in living. As Catholics, we believed that the bread represents Christ’s body and the wine is His blood. In life, we don’t only eat, and eat and eat without drinking. We don’t drink, and drink and drink wihtout eating. These two must go together, without it we die. I love how the priest delivered it in the Cebuano dialect . . . “Pareho sa pan/bino – ang Ginoo, kung wala cya, wala pud kita. “Kung wala Ko – wala ka na” (patay ka na). (“Just like the bread and wine, without it – we will not survive. And as the Lord always says, without Him we are nothing). – John 15:5

The Lord sees us everyday. the question is, do we recognize Him?

We mostly fail to see Him in our day to day life – that’s why we fall into sin. Let’s be reminded, that the Lord is everywhere. In the mass, He is the host. Outside He is the neighbor that annoys you. At work, He is your boss or colleague that challenges your patience. He could be that noisy kid near you . . . God is everywhere. God is with us, He is Emmanuel.

Another take home-ily (homily) I had today is the common joke we often hear from priests.
He asked:

Priest: I have 2 questions: First, Who among you here wants to go to Heaven?

Crowd: Everyone raised our hands. ( 🙂 Smiling and seemed ready for the next question)

Priest: Very good . . . Now the second question. Who wants to go to heaven, – NOW?

Crowd: (No one raised their hand, including myself) – and a roar of laughter answered that question.

Priest: “Mao na di ha…Ngano man nga way gusto mo adto sa langit? If heaven has everything. If Heaven has it all, it has endless happiness?”. (That’s what we’re saying… Why is it no one wants to go to heaven? If heaven has everything. If Heaven has it all, if it has endless happiness?”)

Crowd: Silent, listening intently… (that includes myself again – asking the same and my mind was wandering why.)

Priest: No one wants to go now, kay ang tao daghan pa kaayo ug kabilinggan. Naa pa koy trabaho, naa pa koy pamilya, naa pa koy kini, naa pa koy mao ni – mao na. (No one wants to go now, because we still have some earthly concerns and things/people we don’t want to give up. I still have work, I have my family, I still have this or that. . . . )

He continued . . .

Priest: Naa di ay tay choice kung oras na? (Do we have a choice if it’s time?)

The very reason why no one raised their hands for the second question is because, we are not ready yet. You are not ready yet. Because IF YOU ARE READY – who would not like to go now? If heaven is a place for continous happiness, where everything is present – why not go now? Aside from the fact that we are not ready yet because of the things or people that we may leave – ARE WE ACTUALLY READY?” Examine your life and ask again, if today – the Lord will ask, come with me in heaven. Will you go with Him?”

Will you go with Him, thinking that you are ready?
Spiritually ready?
Have you lived your life for Christ?

* * * This simple joke from the priests maybe taken lightly by others, but going deeper than the usual, it is a remarkable reminder of how we should actually live our life. Living a life ready when He calls us. A life that we must be proud of – because you can claim that you have lived your life for the Lord. * * *
So the next time, the priest or a spiritual speakers asks –

Will you go to heaven? Will you go to heaven now?

What will be your answer?

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Let this be our Prayer:

Dear Lord,

Tonight, as we lay our body to our bed – may You allow us to be ready when you call. Allow us to offer our life for Your glory. If one day, you ask me to come back to you, make me ready. Ready for your call.

In Jesus name. Amen.

God bless,
